Over the last decade, Corporate Governance has moved from the back room into the spotlight. Activist investors, institutional shareholders and “advocates” for every imaginable issue now confront companies directly and aggressively. While publicly traded institutions usually get the most attention, private and private equity controlled firms are not immune to commentary, keeping an elevated focus on good governance. The expectations of Board Members, whether for public or private companies, are at an all-time high. More than ever, corporate America demands directors with next level skills, strategic thinking capabilities and diverse perspectives to help their institutions successfully navigate the challenges which lie ahead.
Alan J. Kaplan is the Founder and CEO of Kaplan Partners, a retained executive search and board advisory firm headquartered in Philadelphia. Since the firm’s founding in 1994, Kaplan Partners has provided Boards of Directors and CEOs with advice on the dynamics of CEO and Board succession, and assistance with the identification, assessment and selection of new CEOs, Directors and senior executives. He has over thirty-five years of talent assessment and executive search experience, after an initial career in corporate banking with two leading Philadelphia institutions. Alan has successfully led over 100 CEO/Succession projects, and hundreds of Board and C-Suite consulting, assessment and executive search assignments.
