Tom brings a unique skill set into the boardroom of companies addressing the strategic business questions: managing aggressive growth, IPO, M&A, financing, fundraising, international expansion, talent development, and succession planning. He believes in the board member’s role as inquirer, guide, advisor, confidant, and supporter.
Independent Board Member
Tom is currently an independent director/strategic advisor at four companies with deep boardroom experience in public, private and non-profit entities both as a board member and a member of management. He has the aptitude to discern cross-functionally to solve problems and identify opportunities within commercial, R&D, manufacturing and G&A.
Tom was President & CEO of Ranir Corporation, a privately-held dental products concern, based in Grand Rapids, MI. During Tom’s tenure, sales grew 64% while EBIT/profitability improved. Tom led the transition into the whitening category with a novel product which helped diversify Ranir’s revenues and profits while mitigating the impact of reverse auctions among major retailers.
Biopharma & CPG Experience
Tom has been a key leader in start-up, mid-sized and Fortune 50 companies throughout his 30-year career in biopharma and CPG industries. At Shire and Sage, both companies experienced extraordinary growth (five- and eleven fold at peak growth multiples, respectively). He has a high financial IQ with deep boardroom experience both as a board member and a member of management.
Tom is currently the Founder & Managing Principal of TreD Avon Advisors, LLC, a strategic advisory firm serving the small to mid-sized biopharma and CPG industries. Tom consults with Boards, CEO’s and c-suite members while providing insights and advice to drive growth and value.
Tom is currently affiliated with Robin Hood Ventures which invests in early-stage, high-growth startups, (ranging from $250,000 to $1 million) en route to building great companies.
