Managing for Cybersecurity Threats: What Every Small Business Board Should Know

Featuring: Joe Hayes, Founder and CEO
Liptak Digital Services
November 14, 2025

One of the most pressing challenges facing small businesses today is protecting their data, systems, and customer information from cyber threats in an increasingly complex digital landscape. Many smaller organizations lack dedicated IT staff or in-house expertise, yet they remain prime targets for cyberattacks. Our speaker, Joe Hayes, will outline practical, affordable steps that any business can take to significantly strengthen its cybersecurity posture. His presentation will focus on easily implemented best practices—from password management and software updates to employee awareness training—and will highlight trusted external resources and service providers that can help fill internal gaps and ensure ongoing protection.

Joe Hayes is a leading expert at the intersection of business growth, data protection, and compliance with HIPAA and OSHA requirements. For 25 years, he served as CEO of Hayes Handpiece Repair, the largest independent dental service company in the U.S., until its acquisition by Henry Schein, where he continued as a Group President for nearly four years. Joe is also co-founder and CEO of Liptak Digital Services and Dillon Dental Networks, full-service IT platforms specializing in data backup, cybersecurity, and HIPAA/OSHA compliance solutions. Together, the companies serve approximately 1,000 clients nationwide—primarily in the dental industry—and in more than a decade of operations have never experienced a data breach that adversely impacted a client’s operations. Joe’s deep experience underscores the serious risks businesses face from noncompliance and data vulnerability, including potential civil and criminal penalties under HIPAA.

Outside of work, Joe is an avid black belt practitioner of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and a passionate but mediocre golfer. He lives in Carlsbad, California with his wife and son.
